Over the years, the Big Blue Bus has always maintained a fleet of buses that represents the latest in bus technology and cleanest fuel sources. As part of this commitment, Big Blue Bus reached a significant milestone in 2015 with 100 percent of our buses powered by renewable natural gas (RNG). RNG consists of non-fracked methane harvested from organic waste in landfills and is considered the cleanest transportation fuel available. Big Blue Bus has also begun to retrofit buses with ISL G Near-Zero emission engines, reducing NOx emissions in these buses by 95%.
In 2016, the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) recognized Big Blue Bus with a Silver Status award. The APTA Sustainability Program recognizes outstanding sustainability achievements which have met specific criteria through the APTA Sustainability Commitment Program.
Our fleet of 201 buses has an average of 5.8 years, and includes coaches by Gillig (40' and 30'), NABI (60' and 40'), New Flyer (60' and 40') and El Dorado (30'). All buses include features such as boarding ramps, space for mobility devices and wheelchairs, and bike racks.
