Ride the Big Blue Bus for Free All Day Long on Saturday, June 22
Santa Monica Says 'Thanks' to Riders, Local Merchants, Citizens After Successful Completion of Transit Mall
SANTA MONICA, CA. - - There's a big street party in Santa Monica, Saturday, June 22, and
the Big Blue Bus wants to take you to and from for free.
For the first time in its 74-year history, Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus is welcoming everyone
to ride the bus for free all day in a gesture of thanks to those who withstood the
construction, dust, noise and detours during construction of the City of Santa Monica's
new Downtown Transit Mall.
"We hope the free ride will encourage people to try the Big Blue Bus for the first time,
and see how clean, comfortable and convenient it is," said Stephanie Negriff, Acting
Director of Transportation Services for the City of Santa Monica. "Forget the hassle of
traffic and parking by using the Big Blue Bus, where you can sit back, read or relax with
friends and family."
From the beginning of service until the end of service on all routes, including The Tide,
no fares will be charged. Riders can take the Big Blue Bus to the Santa Monica Street
Party the same day and enjoy a variety of music, entertainment and discounted shopping
with local merchants. And if that's not enough, the Big Blue Bus is giving away $1 million
worth of special prizes to 10,000 lucky riders. Each free pass to the Wild Rivers theme
park is good for a family of four, a $100 value (one per family, please).
If partygoers must drive, they can park for free park in specially designated lots, from
which free shuttle service will be offered to and from the festivities. In addition, the free
parking lots will be staffed by guides who can answer questions and provide information.
