The Evolution of Blue has begun. Ride With Us.

Thank you to all our customers who participated over the last 18 months on the BBB + Expo Service Integration Plan. In April of 2015 the Santa Monica City Council unanimously approved our plan for an 11% increase in service. Our work is well underway, as BBB works to share information with the community about the plan implementation timeline, develop maps and timetables and train staff on new routes, hire almost 20 new motor coach operators, purchase new vehicles, and add 200 new bus stops to our routes.

With your help as well, our efforts to provide greater service and connectivity with the upcoming light rail will provide more convenient transportation options throughout BBB's service area. Below is our phased service implementation plan that will take place over the course of 12 months in anticipation of the opening of Expo Light Rail Service on Friday, May 20. Please note, the timing on changes is subject to change.

  • Westbound weekday service will end at 9:20pm (currently 10:20pm).  
  • Westbound Saturday service begins at 7:24am (currently 6:33am) and ends at 9:20pm (currently 10:20pm). 
  • Eastbound Saturday service begins at 7:21am (currently 6:42am). 
  • Westbound Sunday service begins at 7:24am (currently 7:54am) and ends at 9:20pm (currently 10:20pm).
  • Refer to Metro Bus Route 20 service for early morning and late night travel.

  • Service operates every 20 minutes most of the day with service every 30 minutes during early morning and late evening hours.  

Tip: Hop on your nearest Rapid 3 stop for a speedier trip.

 

Rapid 3 


  • Introduction of new weekend service!
  • Weekday frequency improved; every 10 minutes or less during peak hours.
  • Saturday service every 20 minutes.
  • Sunday service every 30 minutes.

Alternate travel options:

  • Refer to Metro Route 28 for service east of Century City along Olympic Blvd.
  • Refer to BBB Routes 7 or Rapid 7 for service along Pico Blvd.
  • Refer to Metro Route 220 for service along Robertson Blvd. to the future Culver City Station Expo Line.
  • Introduction of limited service (four weekday morning and afternoon trips) to the future Palms Station Expo Line via Motor Ave.

  • Terminus in Santa Monica will be moved from 6th St. and Broadway to 7th St. and Olympic Blvd. 
 

Rapid 7 

Schedule changes:

  • Introduction of new weekend service! 
  • Weekday frequency improved; every 7-8 minutes during peak hours.
  • Weekday frequency during off-peak hours every 12-15 minutes. 
  • Westbound trips will now enter Rimpau Transit Center and no longer serve the stop on Pico Blvd. and Mullen Ave.
  • New stop additions at Pico Blvd. and Hauser Blvd.
  • Terminus in Santa Monica will be moved from 6th St. and Broadway to 7th St. and Olympic Blvd.

Route will now serve Ocean Ave. between Pico Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. instead of Main St. and 2nd St. in downtown Santa Monica.

  • Schedule adjustments on all days.
  • Saturday and Sunday service will end an hour earlier than current schedule.
  • Route will now serve 4th St. between Wilshire Blvd. and San Vicente Blvd. instead of 7th St. and 6th St. 
 

Rapid 12

Westbound trips leaving the Culver City Station Expo Line will continue straight on Robertson Blvd., turn left on National Blvd. and no longer service Venice Blvd. and National Blvd. corner.

Alternate travel options: 

  • Refer to Route 7 trips that will be added from the Rimpau Transit Center to Beverlywood.
  • Refer to Route 5 for travel via Motor Ave.

  • Will serve the future Bundy Station Expo Line. 
  • Service will be extended south on Centinela Ave. to Playa Vista. 
  • Service north of Montana Ave. and Barrington Ave. will be discontinued and replaced with new Route 15 service. 
  • Service on Washington Blvd., Inglewood Blvd. and Culver Blvd. will be discontinued. Refer to Culver CityBus Routes 1 and 2 for service on Washington Blvd. and Inglewood Blvd. as alternate travel options. 
  • There will no longer be a connection between BBB Route 14 and Metro Routes 234 and 734 to the San Fernando Valley. Passengers making connections to the 234 and 734 are advised to use BBB Route 2 on Wilshire Blvd. to connect between the routes in order to take advantage of the Wilshire Rapid Bus Lanes for a quick transfer.

Rapid 20
